The Assembly is one of the ways that the member churches and communions gather in Christian community to strengthen our bonds of unity - diverse as we are - and to energize and activate our call to live the Beatitude of "hungering and thirsting for righteousness." We are drawn together in Christ to read the signs of the times, seize opportunities and look far ahead:
- Celebrate activities of 2011 and lay out plans for 2012;
- Announce efforts to address economic inequality and intolerance; and
- Listen to congregational needs where ecumenical and interfaith collaboration will be vital and timely.
A point of emphasis for this year's Assembly will be table conversation of all present to shape the work of the Church Council in 2012 and beyond.
Focusing our energy on how to build up the "shalom of the city," we will welcome Dr. Michael Trice, Assistant Dean of Ecumenical and Interreligious Dialogue at the School of Theology and Ministry at Seattle University, who will give a short presentation on the gift and challenge for the ecumenical community to "think globally and act locally."
Finally, we will review the budget, elect the Board of Directors, affirm officers of the Board and affirm by-law amendments.
The meeting is open to all interested people of faith. Congregations of one of our fifteen member denominations may send clergy plus two lay representatives to participate in the Assembly as delegates, who vote on the matters under consideration. Additional members may participate in discussion. If you are interested in attending as a delegate, please have your congregation inform us of your delegate status.
